Men's tennis concludes play at Southern Intercollegiate, Belmont Abbey Invite

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's tennis team concluded its first fall tournaments of the season at the Southern Intercollegiate and the Belmont Abbey Invite this weekend. 

The Bearcats sent eight singles players and five doubles teams to the Belmont Abbey Invite. Lander finished 14-2 for the weekend in singles action and 4-1 doubles play. Axel Cronje, Tommaso Rossin, Gabriel Balestero, Thomas De Negri, Aly Zaghloul and Fergus O'Rourke all went 2-0, while De Negri did not drop a single game in two matches. 

At the Southern Intercollegiate, the doubles combination of Eirik Groner and Ozan Cildir advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division I bracket, upsetting the ninth-seeded duo of Mikhail Sokolovsky and Alan Rubio of UCF in the round of 32. Gabriel Couto advanced to the round of 32 in the Division II singles bracket, topping Drew Lahey of Kennesaw State. 

The Bearcats will be back in action Sept. 28-30 at the ITA Southeast Regional in Sumter, S.C.
