ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. - The Lander men's basketball team suffered a tough 87-85 loss to Southern Wesleyan on Saturday night at Flagler Gymnasium.
Lander (1-1) was led by junior DaJuan Moorer, who tallied 17 points and 11 rebounds to earn his second straight double-double. Elijah Alston and Deon Berrien also added 17 points each for the game. LaRaymond Spivery would collect 13 points, six assists, and five steals.
The Bearcats would take an early 11-5 lead in the first few minutes, but the Warriors would battle back and tie the game at 13. Throughout the first half, it would be a back and forth affair as both teams could not take a sizable lead. Late in the first half, the Bearcats would make a little run and take a 41-34 lead into halftime.
The second half would be more of the same as it would consist of multiple lead changes. In the middle of the half, Lander would build a 77-70 lead, but the Warriors would battle back and tie the game at 83 with 2:03 left in the game. With only mere seconds left in the game, Clenzo Ross would miss the jump shot and tip in the miss to give Southern Wesleyan the 87-85 win.
Next up, the Bearcats are scheduled to face rival Erskine on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Finis Horne Arena.
