Bearcats travel to UNC Pembroke, Francis Marion for PBC road swing

GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball team will look to continue its strong start to October as the Bearcats travel to UNC Pembroke on Friday night and Francis Marion on Saturday afternoon for a pair of Peach Belt Conference matches. The Bearcats will face UNCP at 7:00 on Friday and FMU at 2:00 on Saturday.

STORYLINES:

• Lander (18-4, 4-2 PBC) has won four of its five matches in the month of October. 

• The Bearcats defeated the Braves (8-15, 0-6 PBC) 3-1 on Monday night in Horne Arena. 

• Lander topped Francis Marion (11-10, 3-4 PBC) in a five-set thriller in Greenwood on Sept. 21, scoring 13 unanswered points in the fifth set. 

• The Bearcats currently sit at second in the Peach Belt Conference, while UNC Pembroke is 2.5 games behind Francis Marion for the sixth and final spot in the upcoming conference tournament. 

• The Braves have already won six matches at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court this season, the most home wins in a year for UNCP since 2014. 

• Francis Marion has recorded 128 service aces this season, the highest total in the conference. 

Lander leads the PBC in kills, digs, assists and points.
