ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander women's basketball team scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Flagler in an 83-72 Peach Belt Conference win on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats (16-5, 11-4 PBC) were led by Chelsea Mitchell, who posted her seventh double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Destinee Langford scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, while Jessica Harris added 14 points, eight assists and six steals. Breshay Johnson scored 11 points, bringing her 45 points away from tying Shannon McKever for the school's all-time scoring record.
Flagler (13-6, 11-4 PBC) led by two entering the second quarter, but Lander pulled back in front 37-36 at halftime. The Saints hung in the third quarter as the Bearcats took a 55-52 lead into the final period.
Following a Tabitha Odobe layup that cut the Lander lead to 60-57 with 8:16 to play, the Bearcats embarked on an 11-0 run, converting five free-throw attempts to take a 14-point lead with 6:32 to go. Flagler never pulled closer than nine points the rest of the way as Lander held on for the victory.
The Bearcats return home on Wednesday night to face Francis Marion at 5:30 p.m.
